Readers advice on girls' clothes and staying friends with a divorcing couple

Why feel nervous about little girls' short-shorts and midriff tops? Would people similarly get nervous about a little boy playing outside in the summer with no shirt at all?I know it's hard to raise kids in a world that isn't always safe for them. Does a little girl's clothing choice matter in that regard? How can you say that to a child without hurting her? "We don't want you to wear the short-shorts in fashion because we don't want you to attract the wrong kind of attention." First, Mom and Dad can make a point to praise the daughter once a week or more on something she has done, whether a book report, or learning to turn a cartwheel or listening to a friend.Second, give her an opportunity to be part of a community focused outside herself: e.g.,You may have seen people getting dressed up with long sleeve with long dress or strapless mini dress, Cheap 3PC Nurse Mini-skirt Set Costumes is not so common. On being friends with both halves of a divorcing couple:It's not about deciding whose side you were on in the divorce but being clear about the kind of friendship you can offer moving forward. What you see as anger probably includes a lot of pain. Do you want to be there for her to talk about anything, including that pain? Anything except the divorce? Or do you just want to be socially comfortable? Be sure you tell them the truth. To survive a difficult divorce, a person has to establish boundaries and find emotional safety. Are you available for that? They deserve to know your new limits — will you be talking to him on the street politely, inviting him to dinner, or baking his birthday cake if necessary? Increasing Notebook Battery Power

Depending upon the model, a notebook battery usually lasts from 1 to 8 hours. However, with efficient battery usage, an hour or two of battery power can significantly be increased. You can save battery power by using the built-in battery saving modes and by following good notebook battery-saving practices.Built-in battery-saving modes are Stand By and Hibernate. In the Stand By mode, open applications are stored in the RAM, the hard disks power down, the monitor switches off, but the processor goes on running. When you again perform some activity of the mouse or the keyboard, then the hard disk powers up, the monitor switches on, and the data from the RAM is activated, restoring your notebook exactly the way you left samsung keyboard.
The Hibernation mode is used when the notebook is left unattended for a long time. The open applications are stored on the hard disk, which subsequently powers down, the monitor turns off, and the processor turns off going in for hibernation. On soft rebooting like a restart or wake up on LAN, the processor turns on, the laptop wakes up, and the same exact settings are restored. Both these modes should be used to conserve battery power. You can preset your preferences in the settings of your notebook, so that in case you doze off, or leave the device for a coffee or a snack, the notebook automatically goes into any one of these power saving modes.Following battery-saving practices can also save notebook battery power. You should always adjust the monitor controls to suit the room lighting conditions. Dimming the contrast and brightness saves battery power besides providing relief to your eyes. Auto-save and auto-update features of applications start in the background without your knowledge and these should be disabled. External devices consume a lot of battery power, hence the usage of external mice, Wholesale China Mobile, keyboards, optical drives, videocam, digital cameras, or any other device connected to the PC Card slot, VGA/ FireWire/ USB port should be avoided.
Increase the RAM memory, if an extra slot is available, as this puts fewer burdens on the hard disk, which consumes a lot of battery power. Avoid multimedia games while you are running your notebook on battery power. Similarly, avoid music or movies. Copy the CD/DVD on the hard disk and play it from there, instead of the optical drive. Disable WiFi and Bluetooth. Built-in wireless cards should also be disabled. Decrease or set to mute the notebook speaker volume. Turn off all preprogrammed scheduled tasks. All unused open applications should be closed. The general guideline is that when your notebook is on battery power, you should perform only such operations, which are the need of the hour. Rest of the applications can be performed, when your notebook is connected to the mains.

China may soon see iPad Minis, newest iPads in 3G

Apple might soon launch 3G versions of its fourth-generation iPad and iPad Mini in China.China-based TechWeb reported (translation) today that a cellular version of the iPad and the iPad Mini cleared the country's regulatory hurdles last week, potentially paving the way for the device to launch before long.Apple launched the Wi-Fi-only versions of the iPad and iPad Mini on December 7. The company previously said it would launch these iPads in China in December, but didn't say if that only applied to the Wi-Fi versions or would also include the cellular models.According to TechWeb, the cellular versions are designed for China Telecom and China Unicom networks. The blog said that while the iPad will be able to connect to 4G networks in China, the technology is not ubiquitous in the country, so Apple's mention of "cellular" on its China Web site typically refers to 3G connectivity.
The iPad has proven extremely popular in China. During the third quarter, Apple's slate grabbed 71.4 percent of the country's tablet market, easily besting Lenovo's 10.5 percent share.Apple last week launched the iPhone 5 in China. The company sold 2 million units in just three days of availability, becoming Apple's most successful China iPhone launch yet.CNET has contacted Apple for comment on the TechWeb report. We will update this story when we have more information.Unfortunately, we noticed one "enigma" with the Enigma case and that is that our cover has a little bubble under its material. Despite this minor flaw, we really like the thin and minimalist design of the Enigma and we also love its soft touch finish. The Cygnett Engima Case for iPad Mini is available in a choice of blue, pink and black and it retails for $39.
With a New Year comes new Apple kit, and loose lips in the supply chain have already revealed details about the next wave of iPads from Cupertino. Expect 2013 to bring a new Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display and iPad 5 with light-weight build, if Digitimes' sources are to be believed.Backlighting suppliers in Taiwan claim that the next-gen iPad Mini will have enhanced resolution – although they haven't mentioned the words "Retina Display," we can't see Apple doing much less after the initial iPad Mini release let us down on the screen front. The other murmor floating about the factory floor is that Apple has ditched one of the two light bars in the full sized iPad 5 to make it lighter in the hand than its predecessor.

Apple had it sitting In Review for too long

The compose screen can also be invoked by tapping on the "New Post" button in the top right corner. In Twiggy, you can attach a location to your posts by tapping on the geolocation arrow, and you can attach images via img.ly or CloudApp (configurable in the Settings from Profile tab). Unfortunately, you are limited to only one photo per post, and I noticed that there isn't a character count to let you know how many you have left. I'm sure that this can be changed in a future update. At the moment, there is no support for drafts. In the Search screen, you can search for specific topics or people. Any searches you start can be saved for reference later, and you can also access the Global Stream from Search too. I actually would prefer if Global got its own tab on the menubar, just because I know that there are still people on ADN who like to peruse through Global every now and China Smart Phone suppliers. It's actually a great way to find interesting conversations and people on the network.
Twiggy also features a "Trending Topics" list, and though I'm not sure how much value this adds to ADN, it is definitely not as ridiculous as some of the TT's I've seen on Twitter, which is a good thing.Viewing profiles will not show cover images just yet, but you do get all the basic stats, such as member number, when they joined, number of posts made, and following and follower counts. If you are viewing your own profile via the tab, then you can access Twiggy's settings, which include options for quote format, saving photos, post display, and image uploading service. If Twiggy had come out sooner, it would have been a great choice for ADN on your iPhone. However, Apple had it sitting In Review for too long, and it has now been eclipsed with a lot of other choices. However, that isn't to say that this is a bad app — it just needs a bit more polish to get caught up to the rapidly-changing space of Wholesale Special Phone. I still appreciate it for the clean and native feel to it, which makes it feel more natural on iOS. And the inline image previews are pretty good, too.
It may not become your primary way to access ADN, but it's worth keeping around to see how it grows in upcoming updates, or if you really appreciate an interface that is reminiscent of Tweetie. You can get Twiggy for your iPhone for only $1.99 in the App Store, currently 50 percent off for a limited time. The genre of "premium apps" on iOS or Android hasn't fully been realized yet and I think there's a huge opportunity to build some. The bottom line is that a lot of folks are building apps, and they're not very good.Really crappy apps are crappy, and there's a lot of them, and they will be reviewed crappily, and won't sell.Developers, I challenge you to re-think Appenomics and try things out. You deserve it. Do something different. But first and foremost, build amazing things.

Growing pains for new touch-sensor technology in latest iPhone, iPad

Analyst company NPD DisplaySearch offers a look at Apple's latest touch devices in its recently-released 2012 Touch Panel Market Analysis report. The analysis confirms some previous rumors about manufacturing issues with the new iPhone and iPad screens. The iPhone 5 uses in-cell touch technology, and the iPad mini a DITO (dual ITO) film technology. Both technologies are suffering from ramp-up issues, DisplaySearch confirms.Apple sources the 4"1136-by-640 (326 ppi) in-cell touch LCD from LG Display, Japan Display Inc., and Sharp under a license to use Apple's in-cell touch patents. Under the terms of the agreement, these panel makers are not allowed to sell LCD panels of any size using Apple's in-cell touch patents to other companies. Limited production along with the challenges in producing the new sensors with strict performance requirements have resulted in poor yield rates (70-80 percent or less) in the LCD panel manufacturing. These challenges have also led to a higher price for in-cell touch.
DisplaySearch said that there were production issues with the DITO film and lamination. In addition, aligning the sensors on film is more difficult than with glass, the report says. The iPad mini is the first tablet to use the DITO film touch sensor. These challenges have resulted in low production yield rates, which have been a contributor to the higher entry price of $329 for the iPad mini. Other tablet PCs which are less expensive, use glass sensors or a one-glass solution with optical bonding."In-cell touch and DITO film offer some clear advantages, but at the expense of lower yield rates and higher costs—at least in the early stages of production," added Hsieh. "Apple has concluded that the benefits of thinner, lighter devices will be highly valued by consumers."
Children's book publisher Usborne has a new creative app for any kids who are fond of big dresses and glittery tiaras. Based on the book of the same name, it sees them dragging and dropping cartoon princesses onto scenes including a masked ball, royal carriage and magical forest, before saving, printing or emailing the results. Not, as such, an app. Instead, this is an enhanced e-book being released through Apple's iBooks store, but with features that make it pretty appy. Based on Coldplay's latest world tour, the e-book includes live videos and behind-the-scenes footage, an interactive tour map with "high-resolution audience panoramas" (i.e. try to spot yourself bellowing along to Yellow), lyrics and audio interviews.

HTC One X 4.1 update speeds the phone up

We saw some preliminary performance figures for HTC's One X with the new Android 4.1 update and Sense 4+ and we can confirm that the phone will end up much faster. We were asked not to post the numbers as they were not final results, and once again we can stress that update is right around the corner. HTC is working on a coordinated release of the update for all, and it turns out that most territories at least in Europe should be getting the update more or less at the same time. Basically this means that some countries like Sweden will not get the update weeks before chaps in the UK or elsewhere. Consumer Reports tests new tablets

If you're shopping for a tablet, you have a lot of choices.New entries in the tablet wars are the Nook HD and HD Plus, iPad Mini and Surface.Consumer Reports tested them and found although the top ones all have something to offer, there are big differences. For example, the $500 Surface has a superb 10-inch screen plus a handy stand, and you can get a cover with a built-in keyboard. But when it comes to content, Microsoft has a way to go. Windows tablets lack access to the content selection from Apple and the Android Marketplace, and even the Amazon and Barnes & Noble content offerings.Size is another important consideration. The 7.8-inch iPad Mini is Apple's first smaller tablet competing with other small tablets such as the Barnes & Noble Nook HD and Kindle Fire HD from Amazon.
Consumer Reports found  that in many ways the Mini is every bit as good as the bigger iPads. The screen offers crisp text, optimal photo viewing, and good sound. The $330 iPad Mini is also light, making it extra portable. But for $200, the Barnes & Noble Nook HD is well worth considering. Sharp text that fills the 7-inch screen makes reading a pleasure. However, the larger 9-inch Nook HD+ is a better choice if you're a magazine lover. It starts at $270.The iPad still offers the most content, and the screen is a bit bigger than the Nook HD+. But at $500 and up, it costs almost twice as much.If you're thinking about buying an extended warranty for a tablet, Consumer Reports says it may not be worth the money. In a recent survey, only 4 percent of tablet owners needed repairs. If you still want an extended warranty, Consumer Reports says consider less expensive coverage, such as the $28, two-year accidental plan sold at Walmart.
The entry-level model starts at $499 and comes with hefty 32G of memory. You can get a 64G for another 100 bucks. For yet another $119, you can get a keyboard you can snap onto your Surface that also comes with a protective cover. The keyboard is really a must-have to maximize the features of this computer. For another $99 you can get virus protection. For another $99, you can get software support and for $49 more, you can get software training that will "unleash the potential of Office or Windows."It has a front-facing camera, a big, 10.6" display, you can read, type, do all the stuff you want to do.The Surface works with Office, Windows, Xbox, Skyping is easy, and the kickstand is a simple, useful feature. It's a solid, well-made machine - it's also pricey and the add-ons can really add up.The Nexus 7 is made to compete with Kindle Fire and like the iPad mini, is smaller than its beefier and more expensive cousin, the Nexus 10.

Samsung Seeks IPhone Ban as Apple Settlement Resisted

Samsung Electronics Co. (005930), told by a federal jury to pay Apple Inc. (AAPL) more than $1 billion for copying the iPhone and iPad, wants another U.S. body to give it leverage to fight back. The Korean company has asked the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington to reverse a finding by one of its judges that Apple's devices don't infringe four Samsung patents. The agency, which can block imports of products found to infringe patents, is scheduled to announce today whether it will review that Sept. 14 decision.Samsung needs a victory to counteract a series of Apple wins in U.S. courts, as the world's two largest smartphone makers fight for increased shares of a $219 billion market.
"For Samsung, it's most important to not lose," said Alex Spektor, an analyst with Strategy Analytics in Boston, Massachusetts. "I don't think they need to cripple their competitors as much as they need to make sure every Wholesale Protective Case product they sell into the U.S. continues selling because those products have proven very popular."The ITC's power to block products from the U.S. market gives the commission's ruling more potential economic impact than even the $1 billion jury award Apple won in San Jose, California, in August. Apple's newest iPhone could contribute as much as one-half a percentage point to U.S. economic growth this quarter, according to an analysis by JPMorgan Chase & Co. released just before the smartphone's debut in September."Getting a judgment at the ITC means a lot," said Victor Siber, who was former chief intellectual property counsel for International Business Machines Corp., and is now at Baker Hostetler in New York. "We're not talking about small numbers. It impacts the whole economy, so they should get it as right as they can."
Samsung is the world's largest smartphone maker while Apple dominates in the U.S. In the third quarter, China iPad Case suppliers had a record 28 percent of the U.S. market to Apple's 34 percent, Spektor said.Apple has claimed phones running on Google Inc.'s Android operating system, including Samsung's, copy the look and unique features that have contributed to the iPhone's popularity since it was first sold in 2007.Apple settled with Android-handset maker HTC Corp. (2498) this month, striking a 10-year licensing agreement. Apple said Nov. 15 it is negotiating an agreement with Google's Motorola Mobility unit for binding arbitration of their disputes over how to license patents relating to technical standards all device makers must follow. A HTC-like resolution of the Apple-Samsung fight doesn't appear to be coming anytime soon. Shin Jong Kyun, the head of Samsung's mobile unit, was quoted in Korean media last week as saying the company wasn't going to negotiate with Apple.

LED Cases Call Attention to Your Calls

If having overly loud phone conversations in public places is not getting you enough of the attention you crave, you might consider the OMG iPhone case from Sillybrandz. It has LEDs that illuminate the case when the phone is used. The $30 case itself is made of clear plastic. It snaps on snugly and offers good basic protection against dings. An additional LED module plugs into the 30-pin connector. When the phone is in use, in taking or making a call or even listening to music, the two white center LEDs pulse and two colored LEDs cycle between shades of red, green, blue, purple and orange. The LEDs cast a light behind a translucent graphic on the case for a backlit effect. The LEDs draw power from the phone, so that will accelerate battery drain, the company says, but only by about 5 percent, because LEDs require little energy. You can slow the drain by using a shut-off switch on the module. The case comes with a USB cord that lets you recharge the phone, but not sync it, without removing the LED module.
While the display is pretty neat looking, it is not quite as impressive as it appears in the promotional video. The LEDs are visible as dots through the cover, which detracts from the effect. You can hold a thumb where the lights show through to mask them; then it looks suitably impressive. If you doubt the attention-getting ability of the case, keep in mind that it is the brainchild of Adrienne Maloof, of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" fame. You know how reality TV stars feel about attention. This restaurant at 286 W. Rand Road in Arlington Heights has been open for a few months, but it's just getting around to holding a grand opening celebration this Wednesday. Overseen by pit master Thanos "Tom" Grigorio, the kitchen prepares baby back ribs, rib tips, turkey tips, pork shoulder, beef brisket, hot links, Texas sausage and chicken — massaging the meat with J.D.'s propriety barbecue dry rub and smoking it for up to 14 hours over hickory and apple wood chips. Three house-made barbecue sauces are available: Memphis style, chipotle and Carolina. About a hundred kinds of beer are available. Owner Peter Veremis has been in the restaurant business for nearly 25 years, most recently at Smokey's BBQ Pit in Calumet City.
I've featured a couple wallet style case combos for the iPhone before, but none of them are what I would consider suitable for women, mainly because they just weren't that "pretty". They were more functional cases than they were stylish and to me, they just felt like cases that I didn't think women would use. With that said, Japanese designer Ayano Limura has launched a new line of premium iPHone 5 accessories made specifically for women. First up is the Luminous Collection which combines the functionality of a wallet with the style of a clutch.

Good Contender or Just Another Android Tablet?

This Toshiba has a very sleek look to it, and it has a sturdy modern design. The back and sides are silver, and the face of the Toshiba Excite 10 is a sleek black border around the 10.1 inch display. The front-facing camera is located in the center of the black border just above the display while the tablet is turned to landscape orientation. The rear-facing camera is located on the back of the tablet along with the Toshiba logo which is located in the opposite corner of the back off the tablet.Other awesome features included on the Excite 10 include the small HDMI, micro-USB, and SD card slots on the right side, with volume control and screen orientation lock on the left side of the tablet. You can turn to the screen to the orientation you prefer and slide the small button to lock for as long as you want the screen to stay in that particular mode. I haven't found this particular feature very useful, but I have talked with people who prefer their screen to remain in either portrait or landscape mode. The microphone is a very small opening on the top of the tablet, and the charging port is located on the bottom. The size of the Speaker buy online and the gage of the charger cord enable faster charging which is always a plus.
I have to say that I am pleased with the display on this Toshiba tablet. With me, bigger is better. I love large TVs, I practically crave those tenths of inches that keep getting added to the screen sizes of our smart phones, and I had to have the vivid 10.1 inch display that the Excite has to offer. I have enjoyed Netflix, YouTube, and even football games via the NFL game rewind app all in stunning HD. With a display resolution of 1280 x 800, this tablet has a smooth clean picture that is impressive. The touch screen seems to function flawlessly also.I have yet to encounter the unpleasant experience of having to select an item or link multiple times, because the tablet didn't register the touch the first few times. On other tablets difficulty selecting small links has caused me to want to regress back to a wireless mouse or something, but the smooth reacting 10-finger multi-touch display on the Excite makes doing anything on this tablet simple and annoyance free. The brightness of the screen can also be adjusted manually, or it can be set to change automatically to adjust to the surrounding light.
I am definitely a fan of Android, so it brings a smile to my face to see a decent tablet running Android in a way that does the operating system justice. The Excite 10 tablet operates using Android 4, Ice Cream Sandwich, which runs like a dream on this tablet. The included system apps work well with the tech included in the tablet, but I have run into trouble playing certain types of video files using the included system apps. The answer of Wholesale Universal Portable Battery is to simply replace particularly disappointing system apps with a preferred app or widget from the many available on android market. Ice Cream Sandwich also works well at conserving battery life and not bogging up the system's memory. Previous versions of Android have had the unfortunate side effect of sucking the battery life of phones and tablets, but I have used this tablet for over two days of random Netflix watching, Face-Booking, Skype calling, and gaming with the screen at close to full brightness without running the battery dead, which is a relief as I don't always remember to charge it like I should.

A WSVN cameraman arrives and questions Shorty about the iPad Mini

A bloated-looking guy wearing a navy-blue-and-gold boat captain's hat and a huge white towel embroidered with the Ritz-Carlton logo arrives. He's eating an enormous ice-cream cone. He looks positively insane.A man with a crewcut announces that everyone must line up inside the cage-like fence if they're to be considered "in line" for the phones. The fence is new, probably a measure to prevent the fights over placement in line that have warranted police intervention during past camp-outs. We obediently herd ourselves into the corral. An Elvis mime slathered in white paint and powder sets up in front of us. Someone drops a dollar at his feet, and he does a perfectly choreographed rendition of "Love Me Tender." A grinning tourist snaps an iPhone pic. Does he see the creepy backdrop of mangy bums sleeping inside a cage on a sidewalk?
Kevin, a hippie who wears handmade eyeglasses with frames made of repurposed bicycle spokes, watches a swarm of Apple employees bustling behind the glass. He's also waited fruitlessly for a few nights in a row. "They gotta have a bunch of phones tomorrow," he says, as if trying to pacify his own fears.A WSVN cameraman arrives and questions Shorty about the iPad Mini. Like most everyone else in line, Shorty plans on buying phones, not the iPad. "I want to be the first to get the iPad Mini," Shorty says, lying. "I'm not going home until I get one." Asked why he wants to make the purchase, he responds, "It's got more apps." Right. But apparently his testimony is good enough for WSVN.Soft-bellied young men in Smurf-blue Apple Store shirts peer through the store window at the growing and motley crowd. They look frightened.Demetrio, a portly Greco-Argentine man who is sprawled out on his back next to me, trashes the folks to whom he plans to sell his phones. "But I'm glad they're stupid, because it benefits me."Randall is snoring with a sickly wheeze. Meanwhile, a drunk Australian marches up to the fence. "You lot are sad!" he pronounces, his right hand gripping a cocktail in a plastic cup. " 'Oh, I just have to be the first to have the iPad Mini.' Do you know how stupid that is?" He doesn't seem to notice he's talking to a group of scruffy bums who clearly aren't in the market for $400 toys.
The first batch of people who plan to buy the iPhone for themselves arrives. They tote lounge chairs, snacks, and soda. The iWait team, though, already has the first 30 spots. All the front-runners are asleep, including Rambo, a copper-haired and sunburned Iraq War vet who wears fatigues and clings to a canteen. He's wrapped up in a camouflage sleeping bag.Shorty sidles over to me, winks, and says a guaranteed buyer will pay $100 for my phone. A pale, pig-nosed, freckled little Brazilian dude eyes us nervously from outside the cage. Shorty says Freckle-Face wants to buy ten phones.

Like the fourth-generation iPad, the iPad mini is available in three capacities

To protect the iPad mini from such scratches, there are plenty of third-party iPad mini cases on the way, but Apple offers a matching iPad mini Smart Cover, in a variety of colors, for $39. Like the original Smart Cover, the mini version attaches to the left-hand edge of the iPad mini using magnets, protecting the screen when you're not using it, folding behind the iPad mini when you are. The Smart Cover also folds into a triangular stand for video- or photo-viewing or for onscreen typing, and magnets in the cover work with the iPad mini's magnetic sleep/wake feature. Unlike the original Smart Cover, the iPad mini version uses a plastic-and-fabric hinge. We'll be covering the China keyboard separately, but my initial impression is that this hinge is more comfortable against your hand than the metal version, and it won't scratch your iPad as easily.
Like the fourth-generation iPad, the iPad mini is available in three capacities, each in black or white. Each color/capacity combination is available with or without LTE-data connectivity, and each LTE-equipped model is available in three models in the United States: AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. (Yes, that means that, as with the fourth-generation iPad, there are 24 U.S. variations of the iPad mini.) The Wi-Fi models are $329, $429, and $529 for 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB, respectively; adding LTE cellular data bumps each price by $130 to $459, $559, and $659, respectively. We haven't tested the LTE-equipped versions, which are supposed to ship later this month, but they'll have the same features as the full-size iPad with LTE: no-contract LTE data, tethering (depending on the carrier), GPS circuitry, and turn-by-turn navigation.
Of the many  China China Mobile suppliers swirling around prior to the iPad mini's announcement, the most common pegged the mini as being simply a smaller version of the iPad 2. But the mini is actually somewhere between the iPad 2 and the current full-size iPad. The mini uses the same dual-core A5 processor, at the same clock speed, as the iPad 2; includes the same 512MB of RAM; and sports a display with the same resolution, 1024 by 768 pixels. But the mini has the same 1.2-megapixel FaceTime HD (720p-capable) front camera and 5-megapixel (1080p-capable) back camera as the fourth-generation iPad. (Note that Apple says the A6x processor in the fourth-generation iPad includes image-signal-processing features that allow that model to provide better image stabilization and spacial noise reduction for photos and video than the iPad mini. We'll publish imaging-test results later this week.) The mini also matches the newest full-size iPad when it comes to wireless capabilities, offering Bluetooth 4.0, improved 5GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi performance thanks to channel bonding, and optional LTE wireless data. The iPad mini uses the same LTE chip found in the fourth-generation iPad, so it's compatible with more carriers compared to the third-generation iPad. Of course, the iPad mini also uses Apple's new Lightning connector instead of the older 30-pin connector.

Protect Your New iPad mini With One Of These Sleeves

Though the iPad mini has yet to be released into the wild, there are already a wide range of cases that you can pick up from several major manufacturers.Even Etsy sellers have gotten the jump on the iPad mini and there are quite a few impressive mini sleeves and cases available on the site. For example, take a look at this iSockit iPad mini sleeve ($65) from Blytheking, which was made from a vintage pinstriped gray wool fabric. It's sleek, sexy, and all business. It fits an iPad mini with a Smart Cover and it's even got an extra pocket for your odds and ends.If you're into minimalism, check out this felt sleeve ($36) from Etsy seller Bolsa. It comes in a modest gray color, but you can spice it up by choosing your preferred pocket accent and elastic colors. Not only does it hold your mini, it's also got two additional pockets for headphones and your iPhone.
Finally, for those of you into girly colors and Portlandia, check out this iPad mini Fairy Tip Toes case ($28.99) from Bertiescloset. It's got a neutral background with a pink polka dotted pocket so it can hold some extras, and the best part? It has a bird on it!Since its 2010 debut, no tablet has come close to unseating the mighty iPad.Unlike Apple, which makes separate operating systems for mobile devices and Macs, Microsoft thinks users want a full, "no compromises" PC experience on their tablets.
The many contenders can all be tossed in two piles: "Me too" devices or cheaper/smaller tablets. Neither has dealt Apple a serious blow, and the iPad Mini -- unveiled on Tuesday -- is likely to solidify Apple's dominance. But Windows 8 offers a compelling third way to take on the iPad: by putting a full PC experience on a tablet. Most tablets currently on the market are complementary devices. They have bare-bones operating systems that make on-the-go media consumption and Web browsing a cinch. For most users, they haven't yet replaced the need for a PC.
Few people create documents, spreadsheets or presentations on their iPads, and even fewer run any serious business applications on them. Today's tablets don't multitask well, and IT departments that want to dig deep into the operating system to customize settings aren't going to have much luck. You still need a PC to do that. The solution Windows 8 offers is inspired -- and controversial. The new operating system, which goes on sale Friday, has two modes: the "Start screen," filled with large app tiles, full-screen apps and hidden menu functions; and the more traditional "Desktop mode," with smaller app icons, taskbars and menu ribbons. Both modes work with touch or a mouse.

Google tablet targets iPad Mini

With the addition of the -iPad mini, Apple offers touchscreen devices in three sizes. Now rival Google is doing the same, introducing a 10-inch tablet, an upgraded 7-inch tablet, and a new smartphone.Introduced Monday, the Nexus 10, which Google developed with Samsung, is the company's first tablet that competes directly with Apple's 9.7-inch iPad. Most significantly, it undercuts the iPad's price: A Nexus 10 with Wi-Fi and 16 gigabytes of storage costs $400, compared with $500 for an equivalent iPad. Google did not say whether a model with cellular data would be available.Google's Nexus 4 smartphone, which it developed with LG, has a 4.7-inch iphone4 protective cases and wireless charging capability.Google also upgraded its Nexus 7 tablet, which was introduced this year, to include a cellular data connection which is the predecessor to the newest cell technology, 4G LTE. The model with the newest technology has 32 gigabytes of storage costs $300.
Now that Windows 8 is finally available the genuine discussions are beginning, and back on Earth Microsoft faces major challenges with Windows 8 tablets and PCs, including a mostly indifferent public. However, Windows 8 also has the potential to streamline the tablet, PC and smartphone experience in the enterprise like no other company can.To push the mobile envelope even further, Microsoft on Monday announced Windows Phone 8, an updated version of Microsoft's struggling smartphone OS that will share compatibility with Windows 8. If anything, Windows 8, Windows RT and Surface just made the increasingly competitive tablet market even more exciting, along with Apple's iPad Mini and fourth-generation iPad announcements last week.
Consumers and businesses now have more tablets of various shapes and sizes at their disposal from Apple, Wholesale Tablet Keyboard, Google and, at long last, Microsoft. All this choice is great for you and me.Microsoft now needs to beef up the Windows Store, a sparsely populated area within Windows 8 and Microsoft's Achilles' heel. Yet industry analysts say that the 9,000 apps now in the Windows Store is a sufficient amount for a launch and something to build on.
Last Friday, I was a guest on NECN (New England Cable News) to discuss these subjects and more with NECN Business host Mike Nikitas. Check it out below. The average person now has available to him or her gadgets that 18 years ago would have been considered magical, if not impossible. With only one week's worth of minimum wages in California ($8/hr), you can buy yourself an iPad mini: a device that connects you to all information in the world; that holds and displays and edits and takes thousands of videos and photos; that holds your entire music library; that lets you read millions of books; that holds and displays maps of the entire world; that lets you explore the cosmos by simply pointing at the stars at night; that lets you read hundreds of newspapers; that lets you plan and reserve flights and hotels all over the world for free.

EE woos iPhone 4S customers to 4G with £99 upgrade

T-Mobile and Orange customers with an iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S III or HTC 1X can upgrade to 4G for £99, according to parent company EE.The mobile operator is giving people the chance to swap these handsets for a 4G version and switch their contract to a 4GEE phone plan, if they want to get the faster speeds delivered by its soon-to-launch 4G network. They will be able to move to the iPhone 5, the Samsung Galaxy S 3 LTE or the HTC One XL, among other smartphones. The offer runs out on 31 December, and is open to retail customers only. They must be less than six months into their existing plan and sign up to a new minimum-term contract, too.Pricing for 4G contracts was revealed today by EE, with tariffs starting from £36 a month for consumers and £30 for small businesses. However, there are no unlimited data plans, which means customers will be charged extra for downloading data beyond their limit.
EE's 4G network is scheduled to go live in 10 UK cities on 30 October, with coverage expected to reach another six by the end of the year. The launch will give the operator a head-start on rivals Vodafone and O2, which must wait until the spectrum auction in early 2013 to get started on their 4G networks. Three has the 1800MHz now cleared for 4G use, but cannot exploit it without the go-ahead of EE, from which it bought the spectrum.Orange and T-Mobile have plans tied to the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE, Samsung Galaxy Note II LTE, Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820, as well as the handsets listed above.
Devices running the Android operating system were also considered. While Apple and RIM were said to have direct control over the devices that implement their operating systems and have measures to detect and disable attempts to modify the operating system, Google in contrast provides the operating system as open-source across various manufacturers and implementations that can modify elements of the operating system to accommodate new features. " What is a strength for Google, is a risk for ICE," according to the document.Apple and RIM both received full scores on operating system modification detection, while Android scored one on a scale of zero to five. Android also rated lower on product uniformity and predictability, an area in which Apple's iOS was on top. There are no physical buttons on the ProMini 4000; it uses a single touch on/off button. To check the battery power quickly, press on the on/off button and the  four blue LEDs tells you how much power you have ( 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%). Note above I've actually still got the shipping protective sticker attached that shows where the touch button is.

iPhone 5 Review: A Month with the New iPhone

A little over a month ago, I finally caved and bought a new iPhone 5 to replace my iPhone 3GS which I had had for three years. And after spending a solid month with the device, I wanted to share my thoughts about Apple's new iPhone with those that might be thinking about picking one up. Here is my iPhone 5 review after a month of using it as my go-to device.Over the past month, I have been using my iPhone 5 as my primary smartphone. For those that don't know, I also own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon. I had been waiting, with an iPhone 3GS, for Apple to release a smartphone with 4G LTE data speeds and finally, with the iPhone 5, I got my wish and made the plunge. It wasn't an easy decision, not with the new Nexus coming up, not with the Galaxy Note 2 and not with the Windows Phone 8 launch just over the horizon. However, because of my amazing experience with the cheap Wall Charger, I decided to pre-order an AT&T iPhone 5 32GB as soon as the opportunity became available and thus far, I truly feel like I made the right decision, based on my needs.
Like I said, I could have probably used my iPhone 3GS on iOS 6 for another year but I am certainly glad that I didn't because the iPhone 5 has been treating me well over the last four weeks. So, after spending a month with the iPhone 5, here's what I've found.Coming from the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 5 runs iOS 6 like a dream. Yes, the experience on the iPhone 3GS is good, but it has nothing on the iPhone 5 in terms of overall performance.I can zip through my home screens. (I recently move to a single home screen.) Apps open in a flash. Games look absolutely beautiful on the larger 4-inch display and run extremely smooth. There were definitely times where iOS 6 would stutter a bit with the iPhone 3GS. There is no such stuttering on the iPhone 5. This is an extremely fast phone and a big thanks goes to its new A6 chip from China Car Charger suppliers.
Something else I should mention, specifically, is how fast the camera opens from the home screen. With the iPhone 3GS and iOS 6, there were often moments when the camera app would take quite awhile to open. With the iPhone 5, I've never missed a photo or video opportunity and that's really something that I have come to appreciate over the last few weeks of owning it.I should also point out that I rarely have experienced any lag. The hardware easily handles the operating system. It's definitely comparable to how well the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean run together. Smooth as butter.Battery life on the iPhone 5 is as I expected it to be. It certainly can't last all day, especially when I take it out into 4G LTE territory but it's still extremely solid and I can definitely pull down 12 hours of web browsing, email, video watching and more with a combination of LTE, 4G and Wi-Fi.

Otterbox Offers the Ultimate Protection for Your iPhone 4S

If I owned an iPhone 4S I’d have it in an Otterbox case for maximum protection. I have an Otterbox case on my Samsung Captivate and I love it, it offers more than enough protection for my phone. You can get one of four new Otterbox cases for your iPhone 4S, it all depends on just how much protection your want or need for your phone as to which you’ll choose. You can pick from the Defender, Reflex, Commuter or Impact series of cases.    The OtterBox Defender Series is the ultimate bodyguard for the new Siri assistant and other advancements of the iPhone 4S. This is the original multi-layered case: a built-in screen shield, sturdy polycarbonate shell and robust silicone outer layer keep the smartphone safe from scratches, dust and drops. Edmond dedicates substation to former Electric director

The power of tomorrow's Edmond got a boost Wednesday with the dedication the C.R. Burgett Substation, located at 3033 N. Air Depot north of Covell.Retired Edmond Electric Utility Director Charlie Burgett is the namesake of the  project. Burgett was with Edmond Electric for 17 years beginning in 1992."This is just tremendous," Burgett said. "During the time I was with Edmond Electric we saw over 100 percent growth in number of customers and amount of power used in the city of Edmond. This is just another indication of Edmond's commitment of meeting the growth in our city and supplying it with very reliable and inexpensive electricity."
Mayor Charles Lamb was among the city's staff and business leaders on hand to celebrate the substation. Lamb said the project represents the city's second electrical feed into Edmond from the north. Generations to come will benefit from the C.R. Burgett Substation, he added."Edmond is the envy of electrical systems in Oklahoma, in large part due to (Burgett), his time on watch," Lamb said.Burgett commended the City Council for approving the project and opening it before the peak energy demand of summertime. The cost of the project was $2.5 million, said Dean Sherrick, distribution superintendent.Jenkins began a hobby of collecting radios and ended up having a neighborhood radio-repair business. He found a 1924 radio that his grandparents had in the basement and repaired it.He remembers the speaker: "Beautiful needlepoint tapestry."
His love for old electronics never stopped. It was in 2001 that Jenkins met up with Jonathan Winter, another Bellinghamite, who also loved old radios — so much that he started the Bellingham Antique Radio Museum. The two joined forces.Jenkins bought an old brick department store at 1312 Bay St. in Bellingham that had been converted to office space. It became the Spark Museum and in the 11 years since, the building keeps getting work done on it, and exhibits keep getting expanded. When more money has been needed, Jenkins has sold one of his valuable collector's items, including a 1912 Marconi radio receiver such as was used on the Titanic.Jenkins says the museum is finally close to breaking even, with 15,000 visits last year. The cage was designed by Sedro-Woolley artist Rik Allen, who does a lot of sculptures with rocket imagery and is a fan of the museum. He made sure the wire mesh enveloping the cage has such small holes that nobody could stick their fingers through it and get accidentally zapped. One of the original plans had it looking more like a cylindrical bird cage. Now the top is rounded to point at the Tesla coil.

Campus set to honor LED inventor Holonyak

Nick Holonyak Jr. does not shy away from a challenge, especially in science. So when chemists at General Electric criticized his approach to making lasers back in 1962, he responded directly and, in his mind, appropriately."They were telling me I was nuts in pretty foul language — New York language — and I was giving it back in language from the coal fields of southern Illinois," Holonyak remembered with a laugh last week.Holonyak, now one of the University of Illinois' most recognized scientists, proved his critics wrong and found a new alloy that would emit light in the red part of the visible spectrum, creating the first practical light-emitting diode.
Fifty years later the incredible fruits of his discovery are everywhere — from laptop screens and digital clocks to medical instruments, Christmas tree bulbs and spacecraft. His work led to dimmer switches, the lasers that make CD and DVD players possible, and fiber-optic communication networks.Holonyak, 83, who holds the John Bardeen Endowed Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Physics, will be honored by the campus Tuesday to mark the 50th anniversary of his invention of the first practical LED. A symposium on Oct. 24-25 at the I Hotel will bring together Nobel laureates to discuss his work.Tuesday's celebration at the Illini Union, scheduled for 11 a.m., will include enough cake for 500 people, a separate cake with LED candles and a talk by Holonyak. The first 100 guests will receive a copy of a Holonyak documentary called "A Brilliant Idea."
"Our lives today are marked by everything he has contributed," said Professor Andreas Cangellaris, head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. "Sometimes people don't even have a clue that many of the great things that they are enjoying go back to Nick's thinking about how do you make wild things happen."For Holonyak, that's what it's all about. Thinking. Ideas. Hard work.Coincidentally, Tuesday is the day the Nobel Prize in Physics is to be announced. Holonyak won't be waiting by the phone. He's won just about every other science, technology or engineering prize there is. He'd just as soon be in the lab.Russ DuPuis, a noted engineering professor at Georgia Tech and one of Holonyak's former graduate students, started a Nobel campaign for his mentor last year. DuPuis and others argue that Holonyak should have won in 2000, when the Nobel committee recognized Herbert Kroemer and Zhores Alferov for their development of semiconductor "heterostructures" and Jack Kilby, another UI engineering alumnus, for his part in creating the integrated circuit.

Electrical problem prompts officials to close Henderson School for day

Education officials dismissed Alexander Henderson Elementary School at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday because of an electrical problem at the school, but classes are set to resume today.Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at the school at 6:27 a.m. Tuesday, sending two units and six firefighters from the Frederiksted station."When they got there, they noticed that there was no visible fire, but there was an electrical outlet that was blown out," said St. Croix Deputy Fire Chief Corey Kent, adding that firefighters smelled a "light scent of smoke."They searched the school for any other signs of fire, he said."But everything was OK, and they got back to the fire station about 6:55 a.m.," Kent said.
School officials dismissed school at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday as a safety precaution, according to a statement Education released Tuesday morning."There was smoke in the air and smoke coming out of the outlet. We just wanted to make sure everything was safe," Education Department spokeswoman Ananta Pancham said.A licensed electrician was dispatched to make sure the school's electrical system was working properly, and Pancham said that electricity had to be shut down while he was doing his evaluation."In any kind of situation, it's better to be safe than sorry," she said. "Everybody wanted to make sure that the situation was given the proper assessment and the kids were safe."
The Education Department said Tuesday afternoon that classes at Henderson would resume today.According to William Matthew, the St. Croix District's director of maintenance, rainfall the previous night had contributed to the problem with the outlet. Because of the rainfall, "we experienced low voltage to the school, which caused a problem with the outlet," he said in a prepared statement. As an example, Power Conversion's alternating current (AC) excavator solution, which consists of drives, controls and motors, is designed specifically for challenging surface mine applications and environments."As mining companies look to implement solutions that can lower overall energy use, our systems are an ideal choice as they are extremely efficient," said Richard Price, mining leader for Power Conversion. "Additionally, because the design and manufacture utilize fewer parts, our systems tend to require less personal care and maintenance, which is a tremendous benefit to our customers."

Silvio Calabi: Hyundai's gas-electric Sonata needs help

Wise men from Shakespeare to Cervantes have noted that "comparisons are odious." (Shakespeare actually wrote "odorous," but the point is made.) Hyundai may agree, at least when it comes to stacking up this week's Sonata Hybrid against the TCH, Toyota Camry Hybrid, that we drove last week. Seat-of-the-pants contrasts don't get any fresher than this.First, the good news. The Sonata, Hyundai's mid-price, mid-size sedan, has been a smash hit for Hyundai since it was re-done a couple of years ago, sleeker and larger and more competent. And why not? It's got terrific looks, a surprisingly roomy and high-quality interior, performance that varies from good to better (depending on whether the base 4-cylinder or the turbo four is under the hood), solid front-wheel-drive handling, buckets of desirable features and options (including a rearview camera, two sunroofs, voice control and Bluelink connectivity), 5-star crash-test ratings and, finally, a price that undercuts the competition from Japan, Germany and sometimes the USA.To capitalize on the Sonata's success, China High speed hand dryer Suppliers wasted no time in rolling out this car, a hybrid model that is distinctive for several reasons (beyond its blacked-out grille):
First, the gas-electric Sonata weighs less than other comparable hybrids, due to lighter lithium-polymer batteries and how its electric motor is mated to the drivetrain. Second, it has a proper 6-speed automatic rather than a continuously variable transmission lifted from a lawn tractor. Third, at about $26,000 it's notably cheaper than other similar hybrids. And its EPA fuel-economy ratings are "backwards"—that is, 40 MPG on the highway and 35 in the city. (Since most hybrids' batteries are used up in an eyeblink at 70 miles per hour, the electric motor usually provides more assistance in town, at slower speeds.)But, but: The last Sonata Hybrid China Large power hand dryer Suppliers drove traveled just 31.8 miles on each gallon of regular gas, on a 250-mile highway stint averaging 69 MPH. And this time our overall in-town efficiency was just 29 MPG at 26 MPG.
This is especially disappointing in light of how disagreeable the car is to drive in traffic. Step on the throttle and the h-Sonata pauses for a moment and seems to wonder—OK now . . . gas or electric?—while the transmission waits for a decision; then, consensus reached, it downshifts hurriedly to catch up with what the driver wanted. Meanwhile, you've put the pedal halfway to the floor in irritation, while thinking, "So where's that 206 horsepower and 195 pounds of torque?" Then, when all the electronic sorting-out is done, the car suddenly slingshots away, engine revving awkwardly.

The New ebuggy e-Mobility Concept Allows Electric Cars to Travel Any Distance

If required, an ebuggy battery trailer can be hitched up at an ebuggy relay station and the journey continued using the energy from the ebuggy. On arrival in the destination area, the ebuggy is dropped off again at the final service station. ebuggy can be exchanged whenever necessary during longer journeys so that unlimited ranges can be achieved. And all this within two minutes."ebuggy allows the automotive industry to build reasonably priced electric vehicles with a smaller battery, because ebuggy is available for longer distances. As a result, electric cars will become cheaper than vehicles with a combustion engine and e-mobility will be able to assert itself rapidly and dynamically," says Dr. Manfred Baumg?rtner, Managing Director of ebuggy GmbH.
The ebuggy prototype was constructed with the support of Germany's Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) and project partners such as the Fraunhofer Institut IPA and Stuttgart University. The concept works perfectly.A total of four laps have been planned for the ebuggy infrastructure concept. During the second lap, readiness for serial production will be tested and the first network trials planned. Co-operation partners and other investors are welcome to join in the second lap.The list of transmission projects usually include upgrading current towers and power lines, implementing the "smart grid", and new connections between rural-based alternative energy facilities and metropolitan areas, along with new natural gas power generating facilities.
There are two US firms that offer exposure to the FERC-regulated business: ITC Holdings (ITC) and American Electric Power (AEP). There are quite a few regulated electric utility companies with minor transmission exposure, but AEP operates the largest network of transmission assets in the US. ITC is a "pure play" transmission firm. However, transmission earnings for AEP last quarter amounted to only 2.2% of total company GAAP earnings. Even though transmission income is growing at a 30%+ rate y-o-y, it will take several years before earnings cross even a 10% threshold.ITC Holdings, on the other hand, is singularly focused on transmission business. Initially formed from the transmission assets of Detroit Edison in 2004 and IPOed in 2006, ITC is expanding its geographical asset base. The company currently operates mainly in the Midwest.

Electric group plans community solar project

David Schmidt had been intrigued by the idea of generating power from the sun for a long time but had never taken the next step. The research engineer teaches a course on renewable energy at the University of Minnesota. He'd cut back on his energy use and converted the lights in his Corcoran home to LED.Then Schmidt heard about a community solar project his utility company, Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association, is building. Instead of spending around $40,000 to install solar panels on his home, Schmidt could purchase a single panel for $869."This way, I can do it little by little … buy one panel at a time," he said. "I think the economics are right."New Hand Dryer Suppliers doesn't have to worry about whether his home is facing the right direction or too shaded. He doesn't have to worry about removing snow from panels in the winter.
Schmidt will see a discount of a few dollars on his monthly electricity bill. He will also get the satisfaction of creating renewable energy for his community that won't be affected by fluctuating prices of fossil fuels."We're contributing some pretty stable power to the grid," Schmidt said.Community solar projects, popping up across the United States, are being touted as a model that makes solar power affordable and accessible to everyone. Wright-Hennepin's will be the first such project in Minnesota."It's actually a brilliant solution for people who can't otherwise take advantage of China High speed hand dryer Exporters," said Seth Masia, spokesman for the American Solar Energy Society.Eric Jensen, chairman of the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society, called the Wright-Hennepin project "huge news for Minnesota." Other cooperatives are looking at the same model, he said.
Even if you don't have a good location for solar panels, or if you live in an apartment, you can still participate, Jensen said."We want to connect all Minnesotans with renewable energy, not just the ones with a really good south-facing roof," he said.Clean Energy Collective based in Carbondale, Colo., which is building the Wright-Hennepin project, has built or is building six others in Colorado and New Mexico and has six more in the works, said Tom Sweeney, chief operating officer.A solar project built in 2008 in University Park, Md., was one of the first of its kind in the nation. A group of residents formed a limited liability company and raised $133,000 from investors, said president David Brosch. The 99-panel solar array was built on the roof of a church, which purchases about 25 percent of the power it generates. The surplus electricity is sold back to the grid, Brosch said.

General Electric Company:Unveil High Tech Engineering Center in Waukesha

Joined by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and local economic development leaders, GE (NYSE: GE) today publicly unveiled a $3.1 million innovative engineering center at GE's Waukesha gas engines facility and announced the hiring of 115 employees in Waukesha in the last 18 months. Renovation of the 22,000 square-foot engineering center is GE's largest investment in the Waukesha facility since its acquisition of the Waukesha gas engines business in February 2011. After helping cut the ribbon on the modernized engineering center, Gov. Walker met with employees and toured the Waukesha gas engines manufacturing operation. The tour included a 4,800 horsepower engine destined for an oversea oilfield and a Waukesha engine that provided standby electrical power to the World Trade Center in the midst of the tragedy on September 11, 2001.
"Developing best-in-class products requires a very creative approach to technology," said Brian White, president of GE's Waukesha gas engines. "We need to attract and retain the best and brightest talent to have a competitive advantage, and we believe that our work environment should encourage the creativity and collaboration that is part of the product development process." Engines produced by GE's Waukesha facility are used in all stages of natural gas production, helping to meet the global need for cleaner, lower-carbon fuels. The Waukesha gas engines business, which has been in Waukesha, Wis., for more than 100 years, was acquired by GE to complement the company's high-efficiency Jenbacher gas engines that are used for power generation. At present, GE's Waukesha facility employs about 680 people--about 100 of them in engineering. Since the acquisition, GE also has invested approximately $1.8 million in employee health and safety projects at Waukesha.
Backed by more than a century of innovation and engine-building expertise, GE's Waukesha gas engines are designed and built to perform reliably in isolated, mission-critical and demanding applications in oil and gas fields, factories and utilities worldwide. Waukesha gas engines, from 160 to 4,835 horsepower, drive compressors used in natural gas production, transmission and storage; electrical generators that provide oilfield power; and air compressors, cooling systems, blowers and pumps that are used in a wide range of industrial and utility applications. Waukesha gas engines feature extended maintenance intervals, fuel flexibility and rich-burn as well as lean-burn alternatives for optimal fuel efficiency at varying emissions-compliance levels.

Electric Shocks Force New York Couple,To Abandon Their Home

It was supposed to be a dream home, but after 25 years of dealing with electrical shocks, Millie Mendelson and her husband Hal are throwing in the towel and calling it quits. When the couple moved into the house in Pound Ridge, New York, they say the electric substation near their 6-acre property wasn't much of a concern. Now, according to the New York Post, the couple believes the substation is leaking electricity into the air, which presents a whole host of issues."There's times I go to my sink and there's a little water on the rim," said Millie Mendelson to the paper. "I might put my arm down on it — whoa!"
Millie wears rubber gloves when she does the dishes, while Hal wears rubber-soled shoes when he's outside. The couple stopped using China New Hand Dryer Suppliers backyard pool long ago, reports WABC.The Mendelsons used to keep animals on the property. Not anymore, though, says Hal, "The animals were going crazy." He told CBS2 the voltage drove their dog to chew the skin off its own legs and they had to put her down.NYSEG installed alarms several years ago to alert the family of dangerous volts, but when they began to sound "50, 60, 70 times a day," the company said they were malfunctioning and removed the system, reports Newsday. After fighting with NYSEG for 15 years, the Mendelsons are moving. They've filed a suit in an attempt to force the company to purchase their $2.7 million home, built in 1760 -- long before the power substation.
In August, GE opened a new battery making plant in New York state. Using technology from a UK company it purchased 5 years ago, it is developing sodium nickel batteries intended to store massive amounts of China High speed hand dryer Offers for electric trains and possibly win the fight for the preferred renewable energy storage method. Nickel based batteries should be far cheaper to produce than the mass storage lithium battery arrays produced by Siemens . If these batteries can be produced cheaply enough they are a shoe-in for an energy storage market that is expected to grow tenfold over the next decade. It's a long shot, but if anyone can pull it off it will be a company with deep pockets for research and development, like GE.General Electric's advances in renewable energy, natural gas infrastructure and transportation will make the next two decades extremely profitable for this blue chip. Furthermore, General Electric is currently paying a regular quarterly dividend rate of 3.15% and there is every indication that this yield will continue to grow. This is a stock that I would recommend building a sizable long position in for a very long term.

Consumer Reports tests storm-worthy generators

Storm season is upon us, and that can mean a blackout at your house for days, even weeks. But it doesn't have to result in rotten food in the fridge or fumbling around in the dark. A generator can keep things running until the power comes back on. Consumer Reports just tested 14 power generators, ranging in price from around $700 to more than $3,000. Some are portable, and others are stationary.Consumer Reports tests by hooking them up to small appliances, a water pump, and lights.
Testers found that with portable generators, run time depends on the type of fuel they use. Gasoline generators run 8 to 10 hours. Propane generators run through a tank in 4 to 6 hours. So whichever you choose, be aware that you'll need plenty of fuel on hand. And you'll need a transfer switch to safely hook up the generator. It can run up to $900.Stationary generators are more convenient. They run on natural gas or a large tank of propane and start automatically in a power outage. Consumer Reports says that if you want to power your whole house, a large stationary generator would be better because it will power items such as your stove, dryer, central A/C system, and more.
Among stationary generators, Consumer Reports named the Generac CorePower 5837 a Best Buy. It costs $1,800, plus installation. For far less, Consumer Reports recommends the portable Generac GP 5500. It will keep your basic necessities going for $670.If you use a portable generator, Consumer Reports has this important caution: More than 100 people a year die from the carbon monoxide produced by portable generators and similar equipment. To be safe, never run a generator inside a garage or shed. Always run it as far as possible from your house, ideally at least 10 to 15 feet, and away from any windows or doors.
Years ago, I learned how to wash clothes using a wash board and I hung my laundry to dry on a clothesline. I made coffee on a percolator on the stove and used a toaster without an automatic shut-off. I brushed my teeth unassisted by electrical devices and I learned how to drive on a pick-up truck that required double-clutching and had a hand-operated pull-up brake. After decades of practice, I thought I was equipped to do my own laundry, heat food without microwaves and drive a car that was incapable of parking itself or could run on "cruise control" by itself. But then I actually believed that I could survive unassisted using my own common sense. Apparently I can not be trusted to do so.

ECOtality wins kudos from the Vice President and matching grants from America

Maybe it's the environmental benefit? I don't have the time personally to do a full life-cycle analysis, but according to British studies, electric cars have a slightly higher carbon footprint than their "petrol" counterparts (battery production is extraordinarily carbon-intensive and electric power is overwhelmingly fossil-based). Then again, other studies show a slightly lower footprint after about 80,000 miles of driving. So after your third road-trip around the equator, your karma-carbon account starts nudging into the green. Whatever the truth is, 'clean electric' is clearly not a slam-dunk. Are we perhaps pushing the cart ahead of the horse (hey, there's an idea!) by spending scads of other people's money on "sexy" technology? Just thinking out loud here.
I happen to like the environment, so I admit a bias. In fact, now that I mention it, I can't recall offhand anyone who doesn't. There are, I suppose, churls who revel in filthy air, dirty water, and poisoned landscapes, but they're probably (let's assume) in the margins.China Hair Dryer Exporters mean, I get it that electric gizmos are sexier than their diesel-powered cousins and all that. Who would want to drive the A-Team van when you could drive something shiny and shaped like a computer mouse? But surely we're going to base spending on more than just looks, right? ....Right?Here's where I part ways with the mainstream excitement over these charging stations: I insist on, and think we all should demand, form over substance, content over caricature. The free-market recycling program I'm witnessing, scruffy as it may be, seems significantly more effective, environmentally speaking, than the empty symbolism embodied by the "EV Project." ECOtality wins kudos from the China Hand Sanitizer Suppliers and matching grants from corporate America. The unimaginatively named Tucson Scrap Yard (which just announced on its bilingual website extended hours and 7-day operations) gets nothing but askance looks.
