Rios' youngest daughter, 19-year-old Sophie Beron, says her mother's open heart has set a shining example for all of her children. Beron had an expensive Coach pocketbook she never used. In 2011, Rios was diagnosed with a very aggressive breast cancer. When she awoke one day shortly after surgery, she was surrounded by students, her room overflowing with flowers, cards and gifts. Her husband's football team donned pink attire and made her a get-well video. Last week, Rios spoke with a mother who was panicking because she had found a lump in her breast.
